Roshni -- Currency Recognizer: Helping Visually Impaired People Identify INR Currency Notes
Roshni is an AI-based Android application developed by IPSA Lab IIT Ropar that assists visually impaired individuals in identifying the denomination of INR currency notes. It is the first app of its kind that works successfully with both new and old INR currency notes. The app provides audio notification of the denomination of the currency note when the user brings the note in front of the phone camera. The app is designed to work in a broad range of light conditions and holding angles. If the image is not clear or not focused, or the desirable minimum prediction accuracy is not achieved, the user is provided with aural notification to try again by the app. The app uses an adaptable deep learning framework to differentiate and determine the currency denomination. Roshni is an easy-to-operate app that is visually impaired-friendly and comes with flash light support.
