More than just a notch
Front-facing camera notches were a
divisive hardware design
implementation when the concept first appeared in consumer smartphones. It was hard not to notice them while using your device, and they were
visually unappealing
. Developers thought of various ways to hide or take advantage of it, and the Notch Pie app is one example of the clever solutions they were able to come up with.
This app basically lets you use your camera notch as a battery level indicator. It can work with
different notch shapes
and the bar will wrap around them. You can really fine-tune and customize the shape to pretty much fit even unusual curves and contours. Assign specific colors between
five to 100 percent
as you want and have it persistently on display even at full charge.
Speaking of charges, you can enable a
charging animation
to let you see the progress when you plug in your smartphone. Now, just be aware that this particular implementation is limited to notches. It
won't work with punch-hole cameras
. Also, the app has not been updated in a while. You can still use it as is. Just don't expect updates to come anytime soon.
Making better use of
If you're bothered by the camera notch on your phone, Notch Pie is a worthwhile app that can at least
make it more useful
in the day-to-day. It's easy to set up and you can customize it in all kinds of ways. The charging animation feature is also a nice touch. It doesn't work with punch holes, though, but aside from that give this one a shot.
